The Northeast Coalition of churches, consisting of First Northeast Baptist, New Kirk Presbyterian and Spring Valley Presbyterian, has been blessed to have an opportunity to participate in our second Habitat for Humanity building project this year. This spring the three churches contributed financially and physically as we built a new home for Randy Livingston in the Rockgate community off Highway 321. Randy moved into his new home in July after Habitat received grant money from Richland Co. that was part of the financing for this home.
Now our churches have been presented with an opportunity to build our second home of the year in a Blitz Build, October 11th – 18th, followed by several Saturdays for finish work. The home will be for a family that immigrated to the United States from Nigeria. The Asuquo family came to the U.S. as part of the immigration lottery program. They have been living in mission homes since their arrival into the country with the family living out of suitcases and sleeping in separate homes at night. The Habitat Re-Store will provide the financial sponsorship for this new home with the Northeast Coalition furnishing the labor to build this home.
Habitat for Humanity is one of the great outreach programs for Spring Valley Presbyterian Church. We have members that have participated in Habitat projects for almost 20 years. The Habitat motto from founder, Millard Fuller “Everyone in the world deserves, at a minimum, a simple, decent, affordable place to live” provides inspiration to our volunteers and hundreds more like us throughout our city and the world. These projects provide a wonderful opportunity for fellowship among our own members and other churches in our community while participating in giving a gift to these sponsors that would never have been possible without an organization like Habitat for Humanity.
If you want to experience and be a part of this wonderful gift from God, please contact Stevie Johnson, Judy Duncan, Lyle Hutter or Tom White to volunteer.
