Boy Scouts and Venture Crew

SVPC has supported and maintained a strong relationship with the Boy Scouts, troop 202, for over 20 years. The troop is very active and has produced many young leaders and Eagle Scouts in our community. For many years, the scouts have been under the leadership of scout master Don Gibson, who was awarded the Order of the Silver Crescent by Governor Hodges in 2001. The troop is associated with the Indian Waters Council which serves eight central South Carolina counties and operates Camp Barstow, located on Lake Murray. The Venture Crew 202 advisor is Bruce Nuelken.

Boy Scouts focus on camping and outdoor skills including such activities as mountain biking, rock climbing, kayaking, canoeing, whitewater rafting, hiking, leadership development, and rank and merit badge advancement. Venture Crew focus is to assist/lead activities for the scout troop as well as participate in advanced versions of scout activities such as in biking, climbing and kayaking.
The troop meets in the outreach room Tuesday nights from 7:00 – 8:30.
