Preschool InformationTitle

Our preschool is designed for the development of two, three, and four year old children. Come see our creative curriculum, creative teachers, hands-on and collaborative learning, and our special Emergent Literacy program, that is like no other preschool!

Our Vision
To nurture confident learners who feel safe, loved and valued as children of God.

Mission
We at SVPC Preschool, together with families, church and community, will nurture and encourage the social, academic and spiritual growth of our children within a loving Christian environment by providing developmentally appropriate play experiences as the medium for learning.

The most important goals of our preschool curriculum are for children to get along well with others and become enthusiastic learners. We want children to become independent, self-confident, curious learners who can work well with others. We’re teaching them how to learn, not just in preschool, but all through their lives. We do this by creating purposeful productive play experiences that help children grow in all areas.

Children have the opportunity to participate in Chapel and Music.  Our curriculum identifies goals in four areas of development:

Social/Emotional:
To help children develop independence, self-confidence and self-control, follow rules and routines, make friends, and learn what it means to be part of a group.

Physical:
To increase children's large muscle skills through balancing, running, jumping, throwing and catching.  Also, to increase small muscle skills in their hands to do tasks such as buttoning, stringing beads, cutting, drawing and writing.

Cognitive:
To aquire thinking skills such as problem solving, asking questions, and thinking logicially through sorting, classifying, comparing, counting amd making patterns.  Children will also use materials and their imagination to show what they have learned.

Language:
To use words to communicate with others, listen to and participate in conversation with others, understand the purpose of print, recognize letters and words, and begin writing for a purpose.

Emergent Literacy Program
Spring Valley Presbyterian Preschool is extremely proud to offer the Emergent Literacy program as part of our curriculum.  This program is based on the skills needed as the basic building blocks for children learning how to read and write.  Elaine Horton (Ms. Elaine) is a retired elementary school teacher who brings letters, words and books alive through the loving characters of the "Letter People".  Children travel to the "Land of Letter People" where they are introduced to different characters such as Mrs. A - who loves to A'choo or Mr. T who has Tall Teeth.  Ms. Elaine uses literature, songs, rhymes, puppets, stuffed animals and many other resources to teach our children that reading and writing are fun!
