OUTREACH PARTNERS

MISSIONS & OUTREACH PARTNERS

  • BACKPACK PROGRAM

SVPC works with the Richland 2 School District to sponsor a school, providing food for backpacks weekly. We started this outreach in the fall of 2014. Groups such as our Strikers (3-5th grades) and Preschool often help to pack the bags. All households can participate by bringing food items. For more information, please contact Marilyn Dillon at dillonmarilyn8@gmail.com.

  • BELIZE

In the summer of 2016, 36 youth and adults journeyed for their second time to Belize, where they worked with and through Port Loyola Baptist Church. The relationships that were forged in the summer of 2013 and 2016 continue to grow! Spring Valley is in the process of raising funds to support Port Loyola as they seek to expand their ministry. For more information about attending our next Belize trip, or with questions about how to support this mission from home, contact our Director of Christian Ed.

If you are interested in going on the Belize Mission Trip in July 2023, please email svpc2belize@gmail.com.

More than 40 SVPC youth and adults are planning our fourth mission to Belize in 2023. Your mission team appreciates all the support SVPC members have provided over the years. Some ways you can contribute and partner with us are:

*Donate to have yardwork, housework or other labor done here.

*Make a donation to "Flamingo a Friend" here

*Make a donation to the Belize Mission via Online Giving (write "Belize donation" in memo line)

1 Peter 4:10 "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms."

  • BLOOD DRIVES

SVPC hosts American Red Cross blood drives many times throughout the year in our facility. Blood drives are announced in our newsletter.

  • EMS CLOSET

SVPC has an ongoing collection bin for gently used clothing for EMS closet.  This local non-profit helps teachers and school social workers help get clothing for students in need in Richland One and Richland Two. Having access to adequate clothing and basic necessities helps improve students’ school attendance, social and emotional well-being, behavior and ultimately academic outcomes.

  • FAMILY PROMISE

Family Promise seeks to provide much needed help to families who are experiencing homelessness or are on the brink of losing their home.  We partner with other churches in the Midlands to enable FP to assist these families through monetary donations to help supply temporary shelter as well as  household goods, meals, and clothing items. Each July, we also sponsor multiple FP children to attend a summer camp at Camp Impact.

  • LIVE OAK COUNSELING

Live Oak Counseling Center (formerly Columbia Pastoral Counseling Center) offers psychotherapy, support, education and guidance to individuals and groups in the South Carolina Midlands. The Center has operated as a non-profit organization since 1991, and its services are available regardless of a client’s religious affiliation, socio-economic level, race,or nationality. Financial support is available for clients who lack necessary funds to receive the care they need. The Center is located at 600 King Street (on the corner of King and Blossom). For appointments, call 803-256-1033 or visit their website. We also have copies of their brochure available in the church office.

  • MEALS ON WHEELS

SVPC has been serving as a host site for the Meals on Wheels Senior Resources program since 2018. Meals on Wheels delivers over 100,000 meals per year in Richland County. It takes 400 volunteers weekly to provide service...need for additional meals and volunteers grows daily. Each recipient receives a hot meal Monday-Friday. All have been interviewed by Meals on Wheels for eligibility before delivery can begin. Often the volunteer is the only person that client has contact with that day.  The volunteer is not expected to sit down and talk, but just to greet the client, share niceties and continue en route. Contact Roger Wachob at (803) 210-9414.

  • MIGRANT MINISTRY

Trinity Presbytery has established a ministry for migrant workers in our area during the summers. Several initiatives are part of this ministry.  We prepare and serve a supper for this ministry each summer in Batesburg-Leesville to serve migrant workers and participate in fellowship.

  • SISTERCARE

Sistercare seeks to provide comprehensive services for victims of domestic violence and their children and to advocate on behalf of these survivors, and to help protect domestic violence through community awareness and education. Sistercare receives a variety of donations from SVPC throughout the year.

  • SOUPER BOWL OF CARING

This national organization was founded at our church! Our youth continue to participate in the annual activities. All donations collected benefit local food banks.

  • THORNWELL

Thornwell is all about helping children and youth—caring for them, nurturing them, helping prepare them to become the faithful individuals God created them tobe. Founded in 1875, today Thornwell is an independent, non-profit ministry in covenantrelationship with the Synod of the South Atlantic of the Presbyterian Church(USA) serving children and families throughout the three-state region—South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. SVPC has been a supporter of Thornwell for many years. In 2013 we entered into a partnership, housing a Family Specialist, Elizabeth Ogorek. She is laying ground work for a mission that members of the congregation can help with in the months and years to come. Find out more about Elizabeth and the program.
